Our History
In 1998, leveraging a combined 150 years of service, Codman Square Health Center and Dorchester House Multi-Service Center formed what is now one of the strongest and most strategic partnerships in Boston. This collaboration, previously known as the Health Services Partnership of Dorchester and now more aptly named DotWell, quickly emerged as a cost-efficient way to provide management services to its founding organizations. The health centers founded DotWell to provide state-of-the-art and enterprise-wide management support including a comprehensive IT infrastructure, a performance improvement framework, development and public policy advocacy, as well as financial management. In recent years, the health center partners have charged DotWell with cross-site coordination and management of non-clinical programs, including health education and outreach, Civic Health, Youth Services, Wellness Integration and, most recently, the Diabetes Initiative. DotWell has been recognized by The Boston Foundation and the Catalogue for Philanthropy as a model in the not-for-profit community for its ability to meet the complex needs of at-risk populations while realizing significant cost-savings.

Healthy Weight for Life Clinic Dorchester House?s innovative Healthy Weight for Life Clinic aims to reverse the increasing trend toward obesity in children. Over the course of this 6 month program, we work with our families in culturally appropriate ways to identify and attempt to overcome the barriers to implementing healthier habits, sustained behavior change, and reduced Body Mass Index (BMI).
Our program?s proven success is based around a 2-hour long, monthly group visit, that engages the entire family in the program and the child?s success. We believe that coaching the parents and provided them with resources is just as important as working with children. We have also recently added a swim-lesson component in our in-house pool, which provides the children a safe, effective way to exercise.

From the 1991 album? The Real Ramona, the song ?Not Too Soon? was penned by singer/songwriter Tanya Donelly. She left Throwing Muses shortly thereafter,?taking bass player?Fred Abong with her, to form the?2-time Grammy nominee band,?Belly. Belly?s debut album, Star, featured the huge radio/Mtv hit ?Feed the Tree?.
After Tanya?s departure,?Kristin Hersh,?the other half of the Throwing Muses singer/songwriter duo, continued?onward?with Muses drummer?David Narcizo, releasing three albums over the proceeding four years, spawning memorable songs like ?Bright Yellow Gun?.?
Donelly would eventually rejoin with Hersh for Throwing Muses reunion shows, and she contributed backup vocals to songs on Throwing Muses? 2003 self-titled album.

I was scanning my Twitter stream the other day and I came across a tweet from a colleague who was venting her frustrations. She was concerned with the comments of another woman who was discussing her project in a meeting, mentioning that her husband is the techie in the family.
But I?m not sure this is what the ?project lady? meant by ?my husband is the techie.? Without putting words in her mouth, my colleague took it as ?I (as a woman) should automatically get a pass for my lack of tech experience.?
I?ll admit that I am the ?tech geek? in my family. My wife?s background is in software, so for all intents and purposes, she is a techie as well. The difference is that I bring my work home, she leaves it at the office. So when it comes down to the family gadgets, applications, and processes, I am point-man for all that stuff.
A ton of Sistahs flood my Twitter timeline with all kinds of tech-related knowledge. I know women who are regularly attending and participating in hackathons. A woman gave me my first tech writing gig. Later, she went on to start a technology accelerator for minorities and women out in Silicon Valley. All that to say, I am sure there are some tech divas out there who would?ve also taken offense at the project lady?s comments as well.
Now, even with the recent surge of women taking up an interest in Silicon Valley, the tech scene is still male-dominated, professionally speaking. I am just curious, is this the case at home as well? For example, with all the woman bloggers out there setting up their own brands/businesses completely online, and dominating the field without any input from their spouses, are there women still clueless about the technology in their own home? When it?s time to buy that new family computer or TV, are women right there with there husbands, itching to pull the trigger on a new gadget?
Not trying to stir up any ?War on Women? controversy here, I just wanted to know who wears the tech pants in your family? Are your right there on the front-lines with your significant other, or would you rather let him command the troops?
Terrance Gaines is a husband, father and technology consultant/evangelist who writes about all kinds of tech subjects on his site,?BrothaTech, in addition to several other sites on the interwebs and in print media. He also talks about ?all things tech? among other things on Twitter?@BrothaTech.

Have you ever felt short-changed by a company that overpromised but under delivered? Chances are the organization may have been too focused on making money instead of doing a good job.
Roofing projects are more than just business ventures though. To avoid falling under the spell of a charming salesperson but a terrible Sacramento roofing company, why not ask the contractor about its goals?
Contractors affiliated with professional organizations tend to embody some principles that not only improve the image of the company but also benefit the homeowner. Here are some examples of good goals you would want to hear your roofer mention and live by:
What do you think the primary goal of a Sacramento roofing company should be? If you would like to see for yourself whether our organization matches your needs, don?t hesitate to give us a call and schedule your free, no-obligation roofing assessment today. There won?t be any hard selling during the visit; we promise.

Historically, March has been the busiest month for business starts and March 2012 continued this trend. A total of 5,261 businesses registered this March, an increase of 566; although this is less than last year?s increase of 697. In a recent Statistics Canada report on Canadian business starts, 99% of these businesses had fewer than 50 employees they key definition of a small business.
Business Starts 2010-11

Incorporations, sole proprietorships, and partnerships increased in March while extra provincial incorporations declined. Since the majority of those businesses were corporations, it?s no surprise that they also reported the largest increase, of 381 to reach 2,704 registrations. Sole proprietorships increased by 154 to reach 1,986, while partnerships rose by 50 to 340 registrations. Extra provincial incorporations declined by 19 to 231.
A total of 55,598 businesses were registered over the last twelve months, down 700 from the previous period. On average, 4,633 BC businesses started each month over the April-March period.
Business Bankruptcies 2010-11
For the second time in the last twelve months, BC reported the lowest number of business bankruptcies in 30 years. There were just 8 BC business bankruptcies in November, 12 less than the previous month.
BC bankruptcies over the last 12 months continue to be lower than the previous 12 months, 22% lower. There were 185 bankruptcies in 2010/2011 compared to 236 in 2009/10.
Looking back at the last 30 years we can see that BC?s bankruptcies reached their maximum in March of 1984, with 157 businesses closing their doors in just one month. Skipping forward to present time, the lowest number of bankruptcies has come twice in the last 12 months. The following chart maps the trend for BC monthly business bankruptcies. Since the emergence of the online era around 2000, bankruptcies have trended down to record low levels.
The greatest growth in the number of BC small businesses in 2011 came from the Real Estate, Rental, and Leasing sector, where 1,137 small businesses were added. The Finance and Insurance sector reported the second largest number of 767, while Agriculture, Fishing, Forestry, and Hunting was third with 393.
Metro Vancouver contributed the majority (646) of the small real estate, rental, and leasing businesses in 2011 while Metro Victoria added 43. These two communities represented 74% of the increase in small real estate, rental, and leasing businesses. Smaller communities reporting increases for this sector include Abbotsford 38, Vernon 23, and Powell River 17. Business types within this sector include: lessors of residential and non-residential buildings, real estate agents, brokers, and property managers.
Finance Insurance Small Business Growth 2010-11

Vancouver reported 646 more of these small businesses while there were 47 more in Victoria, a combined total of 74% of those communities that reported increases. Smaller communities reporting increases include: Penticton, Vernon, and Abbotsford with an increase of 15 more of these businesses while there were 13 more in Chilliwack and 12 more in Kelowna. Business types for this sector include banks, mortgage brokers, investment companies, financial planners, and intermediaries.

A group of NOW activists and allies protested today outside a Washington, D.C., radio station that airs The Rush Limbaugh Show, and the local community demonstrated its enthusiastic support. This action is part of NOW’s Enough Rush campaign, which aims to end Limbaugh’s hateful presence on the airwaves by targeting local radio stations that broadcast his show and local businesses that continue to advertise on it.
Limbaugh has a decades-long history of saying offensive things about women, people of color, poor people, immigrants and the LGBT community. But he finally went too far when he attacked Sandra Fluke personally on his show, calling her a “slut” and a “prostitute” for expressing her support for birth control coverage, and refusing to back down on his hate speech for three days.
Today, NOW activists, supporters, and staffers (including myself) spent the lunch hour protesting outside of WMAL 630 AM, the D.C. radio station that carries Limbaugh’s show. At the sight of our homemade signs reading “No More Hate Speech” and “Enough Rush,” passersby cheered and honked their car horns. These were women and men, teens and older adults, people driving mini-vans or delivery trucks or just out on a stroll. Countless numbers paused to give us a thumbs-up, tell us to keep up the good work, and shout their support. We were thrilled to find that not one casual observer made a negative comment toward us or expressed support of Limbaugh. Only a representative from a conservative media organization was confrontational. Could Rush’s comrades be worried?!
On thing was clear: D.C. agrees that Rush is a bully. Let’s keep up the momentum to get him off the air for good!
Local NOW chapters in New York City, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Phoenix, Ariz., also held actions at local stations today. Read more about the Enough Rush campaign and get involved.

Have you ever seen Wealthtrack? At the end of every show, Consuelo Mack asks each guest to recommend one investment that everyone needs to have as part of a long-term, diversified portfolio. If you have read my previous writing, you know that up until recently, I would have said, “Dividend growth stocks.” However, I have now come to the conclusion that I would also include ownership of gold bullion.
Can dividend growth investors actually have anything in common with investors who own physical gold? Yes, as we will see, they have a number of things in common.
Why Everyone Should Own Gold Bullion
Do you believe in the importance of owning health, car, home or life insurance? If your answer is yes, then you need to consider owning gold bullion. Gold bullion is an insurance policy against a future financial crisis.
The great thing about gold bullion is that it isn’t just a promise from an insurance company, or a promise from a country (paper money), it is a currency unto itself from the time before we created paper money. Don’t forget, our currency is no longer backed by gold bullion or even paper money anymore. These days, our money is theoretical and sits as a bunch of data on computers. While I do not intend to engage in “fear mongering” and list all of the potential disasters that could occur, just remember that insurance is always purchased with the hope that you will never need it – the prudent “hope for the best, but plan for the worst.”
Why Stocks Offer Insufficient Protection
If you own a stock like McDonald’s Corp. (MCD), which performed well during the financial crisis, you may still be a bit skeptical. While this is a good stock to own, during a period of heightened financial stress, where we experience a “run” on the banks, you may not have easy access to your investments or your money. This is the same reason that I don’t recommend investing in gold through ETFs like (GLD), (IAU), etc. Therefore, bullion should not be stored in a bank, but a different location of your choosing that provides safety and ease of access.
The 4 Commonalities
Before I begin explaining what the two seemingly different groups have in common, let me make 2 points:
- In order to explain these commonalities, I will be making some generalizations about each group of investors.
- I decided to have a little fun and use clich?s to help explain what I feel is an unusual comparison.
1. A Bird in the Hand
Both groups of investors like that “bird in the hand,” receiving the gold or dividend, for the flexibility and safety that it provides.
2. Patience is a Virtue
Both are long-term investors who usually strive to ignore price fluctuations or market cycles and desire to not have to sell assets.
3. Against the Grain
While interest in gold and dividend growth investing has increased recently, both groups are used to being misunderstood/ridiculed for their investment decisions but have the strength of character to persevere.
4. The Best Offense is a Good Defense
Both investments are defensive, but will perform well in periods of inflation of deflation.
Mixed Metaphors
So, how can dividend growth investors easily get their hands on gold bullion? Gold Bullion International, in partnership with Gold Resources Corporation (GORO) is now offering a program where you can elect to have any stock’s dividends paid out in 1-ounce “Double Eagle” gold or silver coins.
There are a couple additional points to note:
- To sign up for the program, each stock must be registered in your name and not that of a brokerage firm.
- In order to receive payment in coins, your dividend payment must at least equal the price of an ounce of silver or gold. If it is not, the dividends will accrue until you have enough for a one-ounce coin to be sent to you.
- Visit GBI’s website for further information.
Amount Invested to Receive 1 Ounce of Gold
Below is a table to show you the initial investment needed in order receive at least an ounce of gold quarterly. The dividend stocks that I chose are Procter & Gamble (PG), McDonald’s, Coca-Cola (KO), Intel Corporation (INTC), and Annaly Capital Management, Inc. (NLY). I realize that NLY is not really a dividend growth stock; however, it is widely held by dividend investors, and I decided to use it as an example of a stock with a higher percentage (13.3%) dividend.

Conclusion
As we have seen from the chart above, it is unlikely that most people will be able to receive a gold bullion coin from a single stock position. However, most people don’t just own one stock; by investing in monthly-paying dividend stocks, even investors who don’t own enough of a single stock can still arrange their portfolio to receive coins quite regularly. Receiving your dividends in bullion coins is not for everyone, though, and there are many other ways to acquire bullion. Additionally, taking part in this program does mean that you miss out on the power of compounding. However, as David Van Knapp and others have shown, reinvestment of dividends is not for everyone and this may fit your personal investment goals.
I am not giving up on stocks or dividend growth investing, but I do believe in diversifying my investments in a way that allows me to sleep comfortably. What you decide to do is up to you.
Disclosure: I am long PG, KO, INTC.
Additional disclosure: I do not own gold bullion, but plan on buying when funds become available.

VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced that Q-KON, a leading African satellite network operator, and Business Connexion, a leading African ICT service provider, have partnered to deploy iDirect?s iDX 3.1 software upgrade and newly released Evolution X1 remotes. Through iDX 3.1, Q-KON and Business Connexion can enhance their services for enterprise customers and scale their iDirect networks to a much greater number of sites. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

Q-KON anticipates strong demand from its service provider partners for iDX 3.1 to support enterprise-class networks for corporations. In the case of Business Connexion, iDX 3.1 enables the company to enhance its enterprise cloud services solutions, offering corporations the benefits of virtualization at a lower cost. iDX 3.1 is a great fit for Business Connexion because it is specially designed for the large network deployments required to run an efficient and affordable cloud infrastructure.
?
iDX 3.1 includes a new 16-channel licensing option for the Evolution XLC-M Line Card that, when paired with the new lower-cost X1 remote, is an ideal solution for large networks featuring one large outbound and numerous small return channels. Additionally, iDX 3.1?s built-in Group Quality of Service (GQoS) enhancements allow service providers to serve customers with large dormant networks more efficiently and affordably by lowering the amount of bandwidth needed to keep idle remotes in network. Finally, the Evolution X1 Outdoor remotes, which are designed for durability in difficult terrain and weather conditions, offer a reliable solution for sensor-management applications such as SCADA, as well as environmental and surveillance monitoring.
?
?Large-scale networks are an important growth area for Q-KON and iDX 3.1 coupled with the X1 remote bundle allows us and our partners to pursue these opportunities with confidence. We were one of the first operators to implement an iDX 3.0 hub in South Africa, and now we are very proud to be one of the first network operators to upgrade to iDX 3.1.? ~ Dawie DE WET CEO, Q-KON
?
?Cloud services are all about reliability and speed as well as security. This upgrade will cater to our clients? needs on all three of these levels and help us maintain our position as market leaders in the cloud space. We chose the right technology partners in Q-KON and iDirect for this deployment and we are excited at the opportunities that iDX 3.1 and the X1 remote bundle enables for us.? ~ Johan VAN HUYSSTEEN Cloud Infrastructure General Manager, Business Connexion
